What Makes These Courses Different

Ph.D.-Led Instruction

Students are taught directly by Dr. Leslie Tucker, founder of College Career Compass™ and Cognitive Horizon Academy™.

The courses are designed and led by an instructor with deep training in educational psychology, curriculum and instruction, student development, higher education, and college readiness.

This is not a video-only course or a passive content library. Students engage in live instruction, guided discussion, structured learning activities, and academic accountability.

Who These Courses Are For

These courses are a strong fit for students who:

Are interested in psychology, human behavior, education, teaching, learning science, child and lifespan development, counseling, coaching, mental health, student success, or working with people.

Enjoy asking deeper questions about how people think, learn, grow, develop, stay motivated, make decisions, build relationships, and respond to the world around them.

Are ready for a more rigorous academic experience than a typical high school elective.

Want opportunities to discuss, analyze, apply, and connect psychological concepts rather than memorize information.

Can participate in live cohort sessions and complete independent preparation between meetings as part of a flipped-classroom model.

May want to prepare for the AP® Psychology exam, the CLEP® Human Growth and Development exam, or the CLEP® Introduction to Educational Psychology exam, depending on the course selected.

Want to strengthen college-level reading, reasoning, discussion, critical thinking, evidence-based analysis, and academic independence.

Are curious, motivated, and ready to think deeper about psychology and the people, systems, and experiences that shape human behavior and development.

How the Flipped Classroom Works

In a traditional class, students often spend most of the live session listening to a lecture and then complete the harder thinking on their own afterward.

Our flipped-classroom model reverses that.

Before each live class, students complete structured preparation through assigned readings, videos, guided content, or Edpuzzle accountability checkpoints. This gives them the foundational knowledge they need before they enter the live session.

Live class time is then reserved for the work that benefits most from having a teacher and classmates present: explanation, discussion, application, questioning, concept clarification, analysis, and deeper thinking.

This means students are not simply showing up to listen. They come prepared to participate, make connections, test their understanding, and work through challenging ideas with guidance and support.

The result is a more active and academically meaningful learning experience that helps students build accountability, independence, stronger understanding, and college-level learning habits.

Why Active Learning Matters

Research across 225 studies found that students in active-learning classrooms performed better on exams, while students in traditional lecture-based courses were about 1.5 times more likely to fail.

Live class time in these courses is intentionally designed for discussion, application, analysis, questioning, concept clarification, and guided problem-solving—not simply listening to a lecture.

Students prepare before class so they can use live instruction to think more deeply, strengthen understanding, and practice the kinds of academic habits they will need in college-level learning.

Structured Accountability

Students are expected to engage with course materials, attend live sessions, participate appropriately, and complete assigned checkpoints.

Accountability may include:

→ Edpuzzle assignments
→ Guided notes or reflection prompts
→ Concept checks
→ Discussion preparation
→ Applied examples
→ Review activities
→ CLEP-aligned practice

This structure helps students build independence while still receiving clear guidance and expectations.

CLEP® - Aligned Preparation

This course is aligned with major concepts commonly assessed on the CLEP® Human Growth and Development exam and the CLEP® Introduction to Educational Psychology exam, depending on the course selected.

Students may use these courses as preparation for the corresponding CLEP® exam, which may lead to potential college credit depending on exam score, college requirements, and each institution’s credit or transfer policy.

College Career Compass™ does not award college credit directly. Credit decisions are determined by the CLEP® program and the student’s future college or university.

AP® - Aligned Preparation

AP® Psychology instruction is intentionally aligned with the College Board course framework and AP® Psychology exam expectations. Students build content knowledge throughout the year while regularly practicing the application, analysis, interpretation, and evidence-based reasoning skills they will need for success on the AP® exam.

AP® Exam-Aligned | Content Review | Skill Practice | Application & Analysis | Exam Preparation

Course Expectations

These courses are best suited for students who are ready to:

→ Attend live class sessions consistently.

→ Complete preparation before class.

→ Engage respectfully in academic discussion.

→ Stay organized with assignments and checkpoints.

→ Think deeply about human development and behavior.

→ Take ownership of their learning.

→ Prepare seriously if they choose to pursue the CLEP exam.

Important CLEP Note

This course provides CLEP-aligned preparation for the Human Growth and Development exam.

Successful CLEP exam completion may result in college credit depending on the student’s exam score and the credit acceptance policy of the college or university the student later attends.

College Career Compass™ does not guarantee college credit, exam passage, or transfer acceptance.
